Taps for Hardened Steel

The use of hardened materials in industrial processes is becoming more and more commonplace, creating an ever-increasing demand for new and innovative designs of cutting tools capable of machining under extreme working conditions.

Over the past few years numerous application based drilling and milling packages have been developed to meet this growing demand. However, up until now, one area that has perhaps been overlooked is the important application of threading.

Dormer Tools recognised this and has invested considerable time and resource in the development of a new comprehensive programme of HSCo-XP and solid carbide taps. Each tap in the programme has been specifically designed for machining a particular form of hardened steel. Consequently the programme is expected to be of great interest to any manufacturing company working in the automotive, die / mould or hardened sheet steel industry where these materials are most commonly used.

Specific Taps for Specific Materials
As grades of steel come in varying degrees of hardness, every tap in Dormer Tools' new programme of HSCo-XP and solid carbide taps has been designed specifically to acheive optimum performance in a particular material.

SHARK taps in the range have been designed for threading through and blind holes in steels with hardeness levels ranging from 250-450 HB. The two solid carbide taps in the programme are ideally suited for machining steel with hardness levels of 49-63 HRC.
