Dormer's application-based ranges of Shark taps, manufactured to DIN standard, are renowned for their high performance and are easily recognisable by their coloured rings, denoting recommendation for use on specific material groups.
New ranges have been added to the highly successful, proven ranges, with surface treatments and tool geometry individually tailored to give optimum performance. Careful research has led to the development of new features such as a back chamfer on certain new ranges of Shark taps to allow for improved swarf evacuation at high speeds.

Silvershark
 | Features
This tap is designed with a high helix angle of 48º and a double coating of TiAlN on the thread and steam tempering in the flutes to allow a continuous threading operation, as swarf problems are virtually eliminated. The taps are for use in Steels and Stainless steels, AMG 1.1 - 1.5 and AMG 2.1 - 2.3.
Surface Speed
The materials in the above mentioned AMGs require cutting speed values of between 8 and 30 m/min.

Yellow Shark
 | Features
These taps are designed to be used on steels with medium to low tensile strength, AMG 1.1, 1.2 & 1.3. They are also successfully used on copper and brass, AMG 6.1 & 6.3. The chromium plating improves the surface finish of the thread and gives the added benefit of increased tool life.
Surface Speed
The tapping speeds vary upon the composition of the materials being machined.

Blue Shark
 | Features
These taps are designed with specific geometry to be used on stainless steels, AMG 2.1, 2.2 &2.3. The Blue Shark taps are subjected to a 'steam homo-tempering' process which helps prevent 'cold welding' and improves lubrication properties. It also creates an excellent surface finish and gives improved tool life.
Surface Speed
It is important that the correct cutting speeds are used when cutting stainless steels.
