CDX

Over the last decade, the development of the CDX drill has been the backbone of Dormer's carbide range. Additions to the range have resulted in comprehensive coverage of the majority of applications, including deeper holes and precision drilling.
With feed rates much higher than the average recommended for other solid carbide drills, CDX guarantees optimum performance even in difficult applications. The use of CAD CAM systems, selection of the latest micrograin carbide materials and PVD coatings have all combined to optimise the CDX range of high productivity drills. The recent incorporation of the Futura Nano coating on 4 new ranges of stepped shank drills has resulted in improved wear resistance and cutting edge stability, which in turn leads to longer tool life and better hole quality. The unique convex lip shape gives ideal chip formation at high metal removal rates. The helix angle and large flute volume aid fast and efficient transport of chips. Maximum cutting efficiency is ensured by precisely controlled preparation of the cutting edges, whilst the thicker web design gives strength to the drill to allow the higher penetration rates to be achieved.

R510 & R554
The recommended hole depths without pecking:
R520 up to 2.5 X Diameter
R558 up to 2.5 x Diameter
R590 up to 2.5 x Diameter
R557 up to 3 x Diameter
R510 up to 4 x Diameter
R554 up to 4 x Diameter
R553 up to 5 x Diameter

There are two shank styles in the CDX range - standard parallel design on the R520 and R510 TiN coated stub and jobber drills and the R590 TiAlN coated double margin drill, DIN 6535 HA on the Futura Nano coated solid and oilfeed designs.

Hole Tolerance and Positional Accuracy
CDX drills are capable of producing holes to close positional accuracy and, when combined with good machine set-up, H8 hole tolerance can be achieved.
